ISI Faculty Support Initiative – Advancing Sustainability in Higher Education through Application of the Envision Framework

The Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI) is introducing an academic grant initiative to support faculty engaged in sustainability-focused teaching and research incorporating the Envision Sustainable Infrastructure Framework to guide and evaluate their work. Participants will receive a $5,000 grant, professional development through ENV SP credential training, and opportunities to advance best practices in sustainable infrastructure and systems thinking across the curriculum.

The Envision Sustainable Infrastructure Framework is a comprehensive tool that helps professionals plan, design, and deliver more sustainable projects of all types and sizes. Envision is a decision-making tool that is used by infrastructure owners, engineers, designers, architects, planners, contractors, and other stakeholders to evaluate projects across a broad range of sustainability indicators, or “credits,” that address environmental, social, and economic dimensions of sustainability to encourage systemic change.

As the climate and social equity challenges intensify, academia plays a critical role in preparing future engineers, planners, scientists, and policymakers to design resilient, sustainable infrastructure. Integrating Envision into coursework and research equips students with the tools needed to meet these challenges.

This initiative aims to strengthen ISI’s engagement with the academic sector by supporting the application of the Envision framework in education and research. It seeks to build academic leadership across disciplines and reinforce ISI’s commitment to advancing sustainable infrastructure education.
