Dr. Libby Jones is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  Dr. Jones received her B.S. in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University and her M.S. and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (Transportation Engineering) from the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Jones joined the University of Nebraska-Lincoln faculty in 1996.  Her primary research activities are in transportation systems engineering, traffic engineering, traffic flow theory, humanitarian engineering, and engineering education.  She served as Associate Director of the Mid-American Transportation Center, the US DOT Region 7 University Transportation Center, for over 15 years.  Recently her research has focused on efforts to reform and revise engineering teaching practices and curriculum, and the concurrent faculty development to support these changes.  A key part of this research effort aims to improve engineering student persistence and success. She is active in service-learning efforts through Engineers Without Borders USA both as faculty advisor and as a member of the Board of Directors for Engineers Without Borders USA.  Her EWB-USA students are applying the Envision framework to their project in Zambia.  Most recently she also joined the Engineering Change Lab USA’s Board of Directors and helped organize their summit on the need to include more sustainability engineering curriculums.  While serving as Associate Chair for Undergraduate Programs for her department, Dr. Jones led a major curriculum change effort for the department that weaves professional skills and topics including sustainability throughout the four-year curriculum.  Dr. Jones developed a course on sustainable infrastructure that provides students the opportunity to obtain their ENV SP as part of the course.
