On May 26–27, nearly 100 infrastructure leaders, practitioners, and sustainability professionals gathered in Milan for 2026 Envision Conference, organized by ICMQ with the support of AIS – Associazione Infrastrutture Sostenibili and the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI).
Held in Milan, the two-day event celebrated 10 years of Envision in Italy and highlighted the continued growth of sustainable infrastructure practices across Italy and around the world.
The conference opened with welcome remarks from ICMQ President Lorenzo Orsenigo and Luca Ferrari, Vice President of AIS, setting the stage for two days of discussion on the role of sustainability in transforming infrastructure systems. Institutions, infrastructure managers, designers, investors, and operators explored global trends in infrastructure sustainability, the evolution of Envision in Italy, project case studies, and conversations on strategy, investment, and governance.

A featured session, Envision Around the World, included perspectives from Anthony Kane on the international landscape of Envision and Qingkang Dai on Envision’s growth in China. The event welcomed a delegation of 25 attendees from China, including Tang Ping, Director of the ISI China Representative Preparatory Office, along with several participants who attended last year’s Zofnass Research Symposium in the United States.
“It was great to be in Milan again celebrating ten years of Envision Italia thanks to our amazing partners ICMQ led by Lorenzo Orsenigo and Envision manager Silvia Ciraci,” said Anthony Kane, President and CEO of ISI. “The progress of Envision adoption in Italy is inspiring!”
The conference also recognized project achievement and industry leadership through Envision verification plaque presentations to several organizations advancing sustainable infrastructure across rail, roadway, and transportation projects. Day one concluded with a dedicated session for ENV SPs, including a presentation from Silvia Ciraci on trends and performance data from Italian Envision projects and a session from Enrica Roncalli exploring comparisons and connections between LEED and Envision.
Day two included an informal technical visit examining infrastructure connections between a rail station and a growing development district—offering participants a firsthand look at sustainable infrastructure in practice.
Over the past decade, Envision adoption in Italy has continued to accelerate, supported by expanding industry engagement, growing project portfolios, and long-term commitments that are helping scale sustainable infrastructure outcomes across the region.
