The Institute of Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI) is pleased to announce the retention of Peneycad Professional Services—located in Burlington, Ontario—to assist Canadian public agencies in the use of Envision, a unique and innovative infrastructure rating system used as a tool to design and help decision makers create more sustainable infrastructure.
Heading up ISI’s Canadian presence is Melissa Peneycad, Principal at Peneycad Professional Services, who was previously employed at Stantec Consulting Ltd., where she helped build the company’s integrated sustainable infrastructure practice area. While at Stantec, she facilitated the use of Envision on several projects, including the first two Envision-verified projects in Canada. She also led Envision training sessions for both colleagues and clients.
“The retention of Melissa Peneycad coincides with a growing interest in sustainable infrastructure practices throughout Canada, and with a significant commitment at the national, provincial and municipal levels, to environmental, social and economic leadership” said Bill Bertera, President of ISI.
“I am thrilled to be a part of this organization” said Melissa Peneycad. “I look forward to sharing Envision and my experiences working with the system with more municipalities, public agencies, and designers. As an avid supporter of the system for several years now, I have seen first-hand how it can help owners, communities and designers collaborate to make more informed decisions about the sustainability of infrastructure”.
In addition, Peneycad is a senior professional with significant experience in the areas of infrastructure planning, design and management; green buildings; business development; climate change action planning; and sustainability reporting. Prior to Stantec, she was the National Sustainability Program Manager at the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) of Canada. She also worked as Senior Sustainability Advisor and Market Research Manager for TerraChoice Environmental Marketing and the ECOLOGO Program (now part of UL). Before entering the field of sustainability, Peneycad was a management consultant in Toronto.
She is also an Envision Sustainability Professional, and an Envision verifier and trainer. Peneycad’s educational background also includes a Master’s degree in Environmental Studies and a Graduate Diploma in Sustainable Business, both from York University, and a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Queen’s University.
