The Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI) announced on March 10, 2021, that the LA Asphalt Plant No. 1 – Replacement and Modernization located in Los Angeles, CA, is the recent recipient of the Envision® Bronze award for sustainable infrastructure. To earn Envision Bronze, a project must demonstrate that it delivers a range of environmental, social, and economic benefits to the host and affected communities.
The Asphalt Plant No. 1 (AP1) is located on an approximately 2-acre site in an industrial area south of downtown Los Angeles. AP1 has been operated by the city of Los Angeles Bureau of Street Services (BSS) since 1947. The existing plant currently produces up to a total of 100K to 200K tons of asphalt per year; and it utilizes 20% recycled asphalt product.
