Member Feedback Is Driving What’s Next at ISI

First—thank you.

You took the time to share thoughtful, candid feedback about your experience with ISI membership. That input matters, and is already shaping our next steps.

At ISI, membership is about supporting the people and organizations advancing sustainable and resilient infrastructure every day. This survey was an opportunity to check ourselves: are we delivering value in ways that are clear, useful, and meaningful?

Why We Asked

Over the past year, ISI has continued to grow across membership, verification, research, education, and engagement. With that growth came a simple but important question:
Are we delivering value in the ways that matter most to our members?

To answer that, we launched the 2026 ISI Membership Value Survey, combining structured questions with open-ended feedback  to help us better understand:

• What members value most
What’s underutilized or unclear
How members prefer to engage
Where we can improve

Who Responded

We heard from a strong cross-section of our community, including public agencies, private companies, and academic institutions.

Respondents included sustainability leaders, program managers, member account administrators, and executives. Notably, over one third of respondents have been ISI members for more than a decade. In other words, this wasn’t surface-level feedback—it came from people who know us well.

What We Heard

1. Value is Clear—When the Purpose is Clear

Engagement is strongest when members can clearly connect an offering to their day-to-day work and professional goals.

• Credentialing and training – 85%
Events and conferences –  60%
Project verification – 60%

These aren’t just programs that members sign up for—they are opportunities to apply knowledge, advance projects, and see real-world impact.

When asked which benefits they value most, respondents pointed to:

• Envision credentials (90%)
Professional development and training (75%)
Best practices and guidance (70%)

Together, these responses reinforce a clear theme: members engage most when benefits are practical, relevant, and directly connected to their work.

Time and Awareness are the Biggest Barriers
The most common barriers to engagement were practical ones:
•  Lack of time (63%)
•  Not aware of offerings (37%)
•  Cost constraints (26%)
Even the best resources don’t help if they’re hard to find or hard to fit into the realities of day-to-day work.

2. Clarity Drives Engagement

When the “why this matters” is obvious, engagement transforms from optional to meaningful, relevant, and worth prioritizing.

The survey confirmed that members see ISI as credible, valuable, and aligned with their mission, but they want clearer pathways to use that value.

This is not a value problem—it’s a visibility, usability, and engagement opportunity.

3. There’s a Strong Appetite to Engage More

Members are telling us they want to participate—especially in ways that showcase real-world impact

Members are telling us they want to participate—especially in ways that showcase real-world impact:

• 65% – Member spotlights, case studies, or success stories
• 60% – Member-focused webinars
60% – Sharing project or organizational impact highlights
40% – Networking events
40%– Account management training or tutorials

Only 5% selected “none,” indicating broad interest across offerings.

What We’re Doing Now

We’re not filing this away; we’re acting on it.

Making ISI Membership Easier to Use
You told us that while ISI offers valuable resources, it’s not always clear how to access or apply them. To address this, we are introducing a “Monthly Benefit Highlight” to explain:

• What each benefit is
How to use it
Why it matters

Bringing Member Impact to Life
You asked for more practical examples. We’re expanding Member Success Stories to showcase how organizations are applying Envision in practice—to improve project outcomes, strengthen teams, and demonstrate leadership.

We’ll be asking for your input, because the best stories come straight from the source.

Simplifying How you Find What you Need
We’re developing an “All Your Benefits” guide—a streamlined resource that outlines what’s available, where to find it, and how to get started.

The goal is to help you quickly connect to the tools and opportunities that are most relevant to your work.

What’s Next
We are continuing to develop:

Easier access to tools and resources for all ISI members.
Greater visibility for member recognition—to better highlight organizational leadership and credibility.
Expanded education opportunities for all disciplines.
More effective onboarding, so new members can quickly understand, access, and apply the full value of membership
More member-driven webinars and learning opportunities focused on practical application.

The Bottom Line

You told us:

• The value is there
• The mission aligns
• The interest is strong

What you need is clearer, easier ways to access and apply that value.

That is exactly what we’re focused on.

This is just the beginning. You’ll continue to see updates, improvements, and new opportunities designed to make your membership more useful, more visible, and more connected to the work you’re doing.

Thank you for being part of ISI—and for helping shape what comes next.
