Brief Description: This Envision Verified awarded reconstruction project will modernize New York City’s Ward Island Wastewater Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF) which has been in operation since 1937. The impact of the $83-million upgrade will be broad, with Wards Island WRRF being the second largest treatment facility in the city, serving over one million residents of Manhattan and the Bronx. Like the city’s 13 other WRRFs, Wards Island WRRF treats wastewater to remove pollutants and discharges clean water into the surrounding waterways. The project will involve reconstruction of ten Primary Settling Tanksand replacement of associated mechanical, HVAC and electrical equipment in pre-houses that will be upgraded. In addition, the project will replace the facade and vertical extension of all pre-houses and add a horizontal extension to one pre-house.
