
A Focused Study on the Control of Invasive Species

The intent of this presentation is to provide non-biologists with definitions, tools, and concepts for the effective control of invasive species in a project area in a manner that could also award them points for the NW3.4 credit. This includes discussing the following topics:
- Definitions of native, non-native, naturalized, and invasive
- Where to find sources of information about invasive species
- A walkthrough of the levels of achievement for NW3.4
- Various methods by which a project could obtain the different levels of achievement
- The kinds of documentation that could be used to show achievement to a 3rd party reviewer
- Optional ideas for controlling invasive species that could potentially award innovation points
- Other credit categories that could be pursued in tandem with NW3.4

Ian Cain specializes in botany with additional experience in restoration and aquatic resource delineations and has acquired the CNPS Certified Consulting Botanist credential. He has 15 years of experience serving as a project botanist or senior botanist on dozens of focused plant surveys, invasive species management efforts, vegetation mapping surveys, aquatic resource delineations, and restoration monitoring and site assessments. This has involved projects all over California, as well as parts of Nevada, Arizona, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, and Montana.
