ICMQ awarded Envision Gold to the design work for the redevelopment Lecce Railway Station in Southern Italy’s Apulia region. This recognition supports RFI’s efforts to establish Lecce Station — serving the city and municipality — as a strategic hub within in Italy’s national transportation system, with a focus on sustainability.
The project focuses on removing architectural barriers, upgrading the existing underpass, and enhancing the travellers’ building to revitalize the station complex. Priority has been given to improving functionality and sustainability. Given the architectural and historic significance of the traveller’ building, which holds protected status, RFI is also implementing the GBC Historic Building protocol. This ensures that the renovation respects and enhances the station’s heritage while integrating innovation solutions and promoting environmental and social sustainability.
The station earned high scores in the Envision Quality of Life category, which assesses a project’s impact on community well-being through a range of sustainability indicators. It also excelled in the Envision framework’s Leadership category, reflecting strong collaboration with local institutions and the active stakeholder involvement.
The redevelopment aligns with initiatives by the municipality and Ferrovie del Sud Est railways to support urban development and improve transportation efficiency. Funded with €12 million from Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), the project is on track for completion in the first half of 2026.
