Verification Specialist (Two Positions)

MISSION

The Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI) is a national non-profit 501(c)(3) organization based in Washington, D.C.  Our mission is to transform the way civil infrastructure is planned, designed, constructed, and operated in order to achieve a sustainable world.

ISI was founded in 2010 by the American Public Works Association (APWA), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC). ISI then partnered with the Zofnass Program for Sustainable Infrastructure at Harvard University to develop the Envision sustainable infrastructure rating system, which ISI oversees for projects in the United States, Canada and abroad. ISI’s active membership includes over 250 AEC companies, 120 governmental agencies, and 25 universities, encompassing over 13,200 individuals. ISI administers the Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) designation having credentialed over 8,700 professionals globally.

THE ROLE

The Verification Specialist plays a crucial role in the ongoing growth and development of the Envision verification and awards program. The Verification Specialist works alongside contracted third-party verifiers to undertake documentation reviews of infrastructure projects seeking an Envision award. The Verification Specialist directly liaises with third-party verifiers and ensures timely, consistent, and high-quality project verifications. The Verification Specialist ensures the correct application of ISI guidance and policies, collaborates with the Verification Director and others on the Verification Program team to develop and implement tools and strategies to further grow the program, and supports both third-party verifiers and applicants.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Thoroughly review project applications and credit submittals using the Envision sustainable infrastructure framework to ensure consistency and quality across all project reviews.
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with contracted third-party verifiers during the verification process and support them in correctly interpreting requirements.
  • Conduct pre-verification evaluations of credits to provide applicants insights on their submission.
  • Develop tools and other guidance materials to support third-party verifiers and applicants.
  • Track verification decisions and responses to technical inquiries.
  • Address general and technical questions about the Envision verification process/specific requirements.
  • Support the facilitation of verification workshops and trainings.
  • Identify and escalate issues to the Verification Director.
  • Participate in staff and committee meetings.
  • Provide administrative support for the Verification Program.
  • Other duties as required.

Remote Work

  • This position works remotely within the United States or Canada.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States or Canada.
  • Work hours can be flexible, but core hours of 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. (Eastern Time) are expected in order to respond to customer needs and to actively engage with education department staff.
  • Attendance at weekly staff meetings is required.
  • When it is safe to travel, this position may require minimal travel (i.e. 1-2 trips per year).

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Post-secondary degree in engineering, planning or a sustainability related field.

Work Experience

  • Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) credential, or able to obtain the ENV SP credential within the two first months of employment.
  • 5 years or more of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience as an applicant or verifier on at least one Envision awarded project or as an Envision trainer is highly preferred.
  • Experience developing and/or applying sustainability framework and rating systems on infrastructure projects, buildings, and/or communities.
  • Experience working with non-profit organizations or associations is highly desirable.

Skills and Abilities

  • A high level of familiarity and training in the Envision sustainable infrastructure framework is preferred.
  • In-depth understanding of technical sustainability concepts, such as equity, social justice, health, mobility, collaboration, resource use, conservation, ecology, emissions, and resilience.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure project delivery processes (e.g., planning, design, construction, and operation) across multiple infrastructure sectors (e.g., water, energy, transportation, etc.)
  • Organized with strong project– and time–management skills, including the ability to prioritize and multitask several projects.
  • Proficient writer and communicator, possessing strong copy-editing skills.
  • Comfortable delivering presentations in person or via remote video platform.
  • Able to navigate online project and file management systems.
  • Adept at using Excel and other Microsoft Office programs.
  • Excellent command of the English language and produce quality products tailored for targeted audiences. Fluency in additional languages (particularly Spanish, French, and/or Mandarin) is considered an asset.
  • Passion for sustainability, infrastructure, environment, and/or engineering.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • A self-starter who possesses sound judgment.

REMUNERATION AND BENEFITS

  • Salary range: $60,000-$70,000

Marketing and Engagement Associate

THE ROLE

The Marketing Associate will support a wide range of marketing activities related to internal and external communications, branding, events, digital marketing, email and social media, to promote ISI initiatives, use of Envision, and sustainable civil infrastructure in ways that resonate with ISI’s community. Reporting to the Director of Engagement, this individual will support both Engagement Program and overall ISI goals and objectives, including enhancing cross-program collaboration, enhancing ISI’s communications approach, and strengthening the ISI and Envision brands.

The Marketing Associate must be an organized multitasker, able to organize, plan and complete multiple diverse projects with varying deadlines. This position will play an important role in helping the Engagement Program expand the quantity and complexity of marketing campaigns and communication content for ISI generally, and for ISI’s Verification, Education, Membership, and Research Programs. The associate will work collaboratively with all staff to maintain credibility, accuracy, and consistency across all ISI communications.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the communications team to plan and support content marketing campaigns and messaging to increase visibility and highlight Envision projects.
  • Prepare PowerPoint presentations for webinars and external conferences.
  • Assist with designing materials and collateral that adhere to brand guidelines, implement best practices, and support engagement efforts.
  • Update website content, including webinars, news posts, and project profiles.
  • Support development and implementation of social media campaigns and assist with online engagement.
  • Support planning of events, including ISI Annual Conference and Zofnass Research Workshops.
  • Coordinate conference abstracts, attendance, and sponsorship.
  • Maintain internal calendars for conferences and communications.
  • Support the use and development of internal tools, including those for project management, tracking, and CRM.
  • Liaise with ISI members, partners, affiliate organizations, and third-party communications and marketing services providers.
  • Stay informed about the market, industry trends, and news relevant to ISI and its sectors in support of new opportunities.
  • Collect and analyze communications-related metrics, update KPI reporting, and convey data to inform planning decisions.
  • Conduct market research.
  • Contribute to program strategic planning and broader strategic discussions for ISI.
  • Support implementation of plans to achieve ISI’s strategic initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business or related field

Work Experience

  • 3-5 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Past work experience as a marketing coordinator or similar role with knowledge of both traditional and digital marketing.
  • Experience in with social media platforms and WordPress.
  • Knowledge and understanding of strategies and tactics for both B2B and B2C environments.
  • Familiarity with programs such as MailChimp and HootSuite (or similar).
  • Previous experience in the architecture, engineering, and construction (a/e/c) sector or in a non-profit environment serving this sector preferred.
  • Work experience skills that bring added value to the position
  • Experience working with non-profit organizations, or associations is highly desirable.

THE ROLE

The Education Associate plays a strong role in supporting the Education department by assisting with administrative tasks, educational events, and credentialing initiatives. This position involves being the first point of contact for learner assistance, maintains records, and assists in the logistics of workshop coordination. The Education Associate plays a key role in ensuring the efficiency of credentialing and training processes. This role will report to the Education Director & Learning Solutions Director.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide logistical and administrative support for Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) Training requests, including packaging of contracts and trainer identification.
  • Assist with maintaining records and documentation, including overlap of Envision education hours with professional development and credentialing partners, such as RCEP and APA.
  • Support coordination of external stakeholder forums, including minute-keeping and scheduling for Training Roundtable, Academic Committee, and Training & Credentialing Committee.
  • Manage invoice collection and solving invoice related system requests.
  • Support course management, including tracking and inventory of online content and participant engagement.
  • Manage end-of-workshop surveys, ensuring Envision trainers receive feedback in a timely manner.
  • Track Envision credits for affiliated organizations and for external events to distribute, such as during student competitions.
  • Assist with the distribution of materials for workshops.
  • Troubleshoot questions for inquiring and renewing ENV SPs, including those directly received from the general ISI contact form.
